I GO GREEN: Let’s plant 5,000 trees together
From August 31st to October 4th we’re doubling down on sustainability here at IGO. Here's the deal: A percentage of every order will go to donating trees to the world. Further, every single order placed within this time-period will unlock a minimum of 1 tree, regardless of your order size.
We are pledging to donate 5,000 trees. No matter what. If necessary we will pay the difference to ensure we reach our goal together.
But with customers like you, we’re pretty sure we won’t need to!
Choosing sustainable products makes a difference
Sustainability isn't just about making sure we still have enough resources to continue life as usual for the next 10 years. It's about making sure your kids' kids have the chance to grow up in the wonderful world we did.
The thing is, that with current policies in place, we're emitting too much greenhouse gas globally. But we're on track to reduce the level of future emissions to help stop the planet heating up, at least according to Our World in Data – an organisation who carries out research on the world's biggest problems.
But this is all depends on us doing our part, both as individuals and as businesses. Easier said than done. So we’d like to help you along by showing you some sustainable alternatives to some of our best-selling products.
Do your customers and their customers have sustainability in mind?
So you might be wondering how much impact your choices as an individual and as a professional have. So here’s the thing. Sustainability is a challenge we have to tackle together. If you turn on the news you’re confronted with deforestation, floods, pollution and other environmental crises.
Millennials are highly aware of environmental impact of their choices and many of them are now in decision-making positions. By going eco-friendly when you next order promotional items & corporate gifts you are making a sustainable choice, which will reflect positively on your brand. And every little bit really does help.
The chart below showcases how far we've already come, it compares the UK's global CO2 emissions per capita (per individual person) to that of the US. Per capita is used to make sure the difference in population size won't skew the results.
A deep dive into CO2 emissions
The UK’s carbon footprint per capita is currently one of the lowest in the world. And this is exactly because a huge effort is being made. By the government, business and individuals. But we can still do better. In fact, here at IGO we have committed to doing better. Together with our customers we’re going to plant 5,000 trees, and here's why:
Our commitment to battling climate change
There are many ways to help combat climate change and offset your carbon footprint. Planting trees is just one of those ways. The thing is, trees absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) and release oxygen back into the world. In fact, an average tree absorbs up to 48 pounds of CO2 per year. To put that into perspective, with 5,000 trees planted, we are going to help absorb 240,000 pounds of CO2 every year.
It can be a little hard to grasp how much space this amount of trees would take up, so we're going to offer some context. According to the forest associations around the world, you'll typically plant 1,600 trees on a hectare of land. Now, one hectare is equal to 10,000 sqm. We're going to plant at least three times that amount of trees.
In other words, we're going to plant enough trees to cover roughly 30,000 sqm – and we're going to do it with your help.
